Legend tells of a brilliantly coloured bird that dies, bursting into radiant, dazzling flames before being reborn from the remaining ashes.
Fenghuang (the Phoenix) reigns over other birds and is often paired with the dragon to represent a balance, from which strength and virtue flow.

The mythology surrounding the phoenix says that it will only stay where there is just rule and is a symbol of power, prosperity and grace.
